Computer Games Magazine Unveils The Hunter - Monday, November 6, 2006

Perhaps the most anticipated article we've encountered in the history of the Hellgate: London community, Computer Games Magazine's exclusive exposé of the game's third class has finally arrived. A wealth of information lies within the seven pages of the cover story. No doubt we'll have many, many threads popping up with regards to what has just been revealed.

The Hunter faction is what Bill Roper calls "our FPS class". Cabalists and Templars are designed to be played with an autolock targeting system. This makes it easy to attack while you concentrate on dodging incoming attacks. But Hunters have a traditional aiming reticle that determines where their attacks go, exactly as in a first-person shooter. It's a completely different type of gameplay with its own unique challenges.
Scans are available here in the Inner Sanctum. An existing thread discussing the release of the third class and other information can be found here. Many thanks to BaronAA for the magazine scans.

Gamers' personal skill level vs Skill System-based limitations...Anybody else wondering about the balancing issues?

Not trying to be pessimistic - if anyone can figure how to balance characters, it's the people who worked on Diablo II - but this is a huge difference in play.
A lot of FPS gamers are too good for most games and sometimes aren't challenged by even the most difficult of shooters. Are they going to have to mercilessly handicap the damage capabilities of the Hunter, just so they won't leave everyone else in the dust?

Inversely: with auto-aiming weapons, will the other characters be better shots than any FPS player could possibly be?

Gah!! I'm freakin' out, man!

yeah i am with Ret. i am not saying i hate the idea of having the hunter be self aim. but its just that no one has ever made it work (or tried), to mix the two styles. and balanceing will be hard as hell. i will ahve to see it in action but i have faith that FSS will in the end produce a great product.

Tons of interesting things in these articles too. one of which is each faction will progress to "somewhere around level ten, (where) you'll select one of three unique classes for your faction." So their are 3 factions with 3 skill trees each for a total of 9 classes.
I can just see the online conversation now:
DemonBoy16: "What are you making?"
Cage: "You know your basic cookie cutter hunter trapper."

I wouldn't be that worried.
Hitboxes/areas are what make good fps aimers good - they always hit you between the eyes.
But hellgate doesn't have hitboxes/areas. It doesn't matter if you shoot them in the balls or in the thumb - it's all the same damage.

yeah i think it would be cool to have a "headshot" or something. but how do you score a headshot with a weapon that shoots beetle swarms or something like that you know.

and Mr. Ritchey Alejandro is not for eatting he is an attack dog... with huge fangs

I don't think there is a statement anywhere that specifically says no hitboxes for hunters.
But because it has been said that there are none I would consider it the universal truth until specified otherwise.
