Lash / Arc / Drain

Hello everyone!
I'm sitting here at the calculator trying to build my Evoker specc. And I'm just woundering about the "Spectral Lash", "Arc Legion" and "Drain Life" skills.

According to the calculator and ingame skilltree they all get their dmg dependent on the euqipped focus item. Meaning they all got the same amount of dmg, since its the same source that enpowers them. None of the skills gets a higher amount of dmg done when you put skill points on them.

Why then, should I put my skillpoints on "Spectral Lash" or "Arc Legion" when they both costs more power/s then "Drain Life" + that "Drain Life" restores me a huge amount of health/s?
Has something slipped between my fingers? Or is "Drain Life" just total imbaness?

Drain life doesn't cause any damage. Also when a spell is dependent on focus item to do damage doesn't mean they all do the same damage.

Say spell A does 50 damage and spell B does 100 damage with your green focus. Now you have picked up a better blue focus that has a lot more power so your spell A now would do 100 damage and spell B would now do 200 damage. That's roughly how it works.

drain life does cause damage but it's slow (like maybe 1/3 or 1/4 the damage of lash) and it also costs more power the more mobs you're draining with it
