I'm kind of confused about how one should go about picking skills. Is it meant to be like Diablo, where you choose a path in the skill tree and follow it closely?

Or is it more like WoW, where you should get tons of different skills and use them all simultaneously. It seems like this is what they want you to do, since there are so many skill slots. Though it's gonna be hard to hit the right skill when you're frantically reaching for the 8 or 9 key in the dark...

I would love for skills to be so balanced that I could just dance around choosing whatever skills I please, without becoming underpowered (as opposed to putting 10 levels into a single ultra skill).

First of all you cant respecc. Secondly it depends. Right now in the beta i am going with a single DPS blademaster. Where i have points in like single DPS skills and fear + surge. It all depends how you want to play your blademaster. Choose your own style :)

Nobody really knows how well it works since the beta only allows you to get to lvl 22. Which means you only get 22 skill points and only like half of the skills to actualy try out >D

some skills are on a tree with prereqs etc, others are by themselves and you just need to be a high enough level to use them. but its not like d2 where u had a cold tree/fire tree/lightning tree for sorc etc. theres just one page that has all your skills on them, allthough as far as ive seen the skills of the same type are treed, so like on guardian a bunch of shield skills are in a tree.

hope that helps

Yeah its like WoW talents. Certain skilsl require you to have points in the skill before that. So to answer really simple> YES you have to choose a @path@

Well, that's not really my question.

The thing is in WoW, I had a ton of skills... and I used them ALL. In one fight I'd use like 10 skills or more, because they all complemented each other.

While in Diablo 2, I would generally only use one or two skills in a battle, because when you get a new skill, it renders previous ones obsolete (earlier in the tree).

So I'm wondering which style of play Hellgate falls under.
It seems from the demo, that it's more like Diablo 2 where you only have a couple of really useful skills at a time. But that makes me wonder why they gave you all those shortcut slots for skills similar to WoW.

That's one thing I really liked about WoW: that skill points were never wasted because even the low level skills stay useful for their own purpose throughout the game.

Since you learn SKILLS and not tallents through a SKILL tree. It falls more towards diablo where you use a few skills.

Note> Like i said the beta only goes to 22 which means you don have alot of different skills to choose from!
