Been reading on some Wikis that Focus Devices can't be modded? What gives? Seems like a big part of the game is modding your gear to further benefit your spec. Why are cabalists cut out of this deal?

hmmm? On the summoner video, the focus device could be modded? No? Im probably wrong, but I thought they said Spellcasters would have in on the "item game" as well (including mods, I would hope).

Well, I'm going off the info I saw here: http://hellgate.incgamers.com/wiki/index.php/Focus_Drive

"Max Mod Slots: No mod slots (subject to change) "

Weapon swapping is a large part of the game. Just as templar still have need for guns, so will cabalist. You will of course be able to mod those.

Someone needs to update the freaking wiki. We're going to lose prospecting cabbie players over that shit.

That isn't our wiki that was quoted. It's IncGamers'.

And yes, that information is very much out of date. Focus Devices can be modded (source is C-Day, not alpha/beta).

Yeah its just like a Templar that needs a sword. Swords are also unmodable, but they still needs them.

Some of the mods are relics yes. Other are fuel cells, others, well look it up on the HGG wiki, some of the info might be dated but I think it still has plenty of accurate info on the mods. I'm not speaking from first hand experience, but I've seen almost all the videos and interviews that have been released.

Modding Focus Devices could be the next best thing to having a "Spellcraft" skill!!!11

P.s. is it Focus Device or Focus Drive?

I prefer focus drive myself... its just catchier, haa.

After taking a look at gameplay videos, I've concluded that holding 2 Focus drives would be the prettiest way to play... so Evoker, here I come!

Focus Device.

And the only things that are not moddable at this time are armor pieces.

Yeah, I prefer to call them focus drives as well (or even catchier, focal drive). I first saw the term used in an article months back, even though it's not the name they went with; it's what I'm going with!

yes, focus devices are indeed modable. I've been playing in beta, and with your 3 weapon sets it's easy to have focus devices modded to do extra damage to demons/beasts/necros/spectrals and change it on the fly. I have mainly used spectral bolt for long range/group damage, and switch to firestorm for up close. one of my focus devices is modded with + damage to necros and + phase damage, so I use that for my spectral bolt. You see a lot of groups of necros. Another focus device is modded with + damage to demons and + fire damage, so i switch to that when things get close. In my experience most things that are strong enough to get close to me are demons anyway, so....

btw, playing an evoker.

i prefer to have first slot Big gun of doom, second slot 1 foci with 1 pistol of random assortment to do uberz damages and the third is my.. junk slot if you call it, just use it as storage if i cant give up a certain item. with my cabbie i decided i kill faster with 1 foci and 1 gun than 2 foci since 2 foci doesnt actually shoot 2 different bolts.

yeah, I keep a swarm gun in slot 1, and a blaze pistol in each of the other slots with + damage to demon in two, and + damage to beasts in three.

for mods shield penetration is important
i've heard that chance to cast on death procs are very good (to the point that it may be bugged)
stacking crit chance and crit damage seems like it might be really great (though i've never done it except on accident)
i've seen people using luck ones for "magic find" purposes and +xx% of all damage sources for the mini game

thing's like splash damage and increased range i'm not sure if they apply to our skills or not..

I'm pretty positive that it doesn't effect to cabbie skills, I tried it a couple times with mods and haven't notice a difference at all.

One little question: are evokers able to cast any spell with any foci equipped, or it is necessary to use specific foci for each spell?

Sp3tSnAz

Nah any foci devices :) The different ones just have diff effects, like damage types and so on

Does it means, that damage of any spell will be the same with the same foci (excluding cases when device boosts particular spell, of cause)? Or they add some bonus only?

Pretty sure thats how it works, same damage but just spell variations on how they work and so on...
