View Full Version : Sequels in other cities?

Do you think that any possible sequels to HG:L will be in other major cities? When they gave the game a name the didn't need to put the word London in there. That could mean that we might be seeing a Hellgate: Tokyo or a Hellgate: New York. Would you be interested in this or would you like to see possible sequels remain in London? I wonder if the story will allow them to move between cities. . .

Hellgate: Rome and Hellgate: Las Vegas have been mentioned as possible sequels. I'd love to see a Hellgate: New York, but Las Vegas would have a lot of deep underground military bases, mountain bases and a post-apocalyptic environment out in the cratered desert, I'd imagine.

Las Vegas sounds like an interesting choice 'o location for a potential sequel.

I wonder if they could pull off a move to Vegas storywise.

I wonder if Rockstar Games would complain via lawsuit any. I mean, their current series features a similar method of creating sequels.

That and I'd figure that whatever caused the breach between the worlds in the Hellgate universe, it could have occurred simultaneously across the planet. Or perhaps London is ground zero for the invasion. Regardless, they'd have to add more than just another city to the title and new maps for a successful sequel. And, knowing that these guys made Diablo II, they wouldn't do it without a reasonable plot addition.

Speaking of which, just killed Baal for the first time in years last night. The addiction lives again.

I see them using Hallgate:X as an expansion pack, slowly covering what has happened to the world, as you crusade across the world... Or something to that degree. New York would be fun thanks to its massive buildings and its corrupt masters that most likely would try and control the demons.

Either way, what they have made is a fun concept that could go either way as of right now.

Rockstar can't complain. It's not like they own the rights to the cities or the basis in which they produce sequels.

Very true. But Grand Theft Auto does pretty much the same thing and their sequels are very successful. Same thing with games like Final Fantasy. Same premise and basic gameplay. Different setting. In fact, that's usually the case for most sequels.

i just wonder how wide and precise is the map of London. It'd be interesting to simply roam on post-apocalyptic streets after defeating the monsters in the area :)
damn it! this game seems exactly what i wanted all these times :D
And will there be teleports/waypoints in the game? How do we have to get to "home" if we fought our way far from the base?

Sol Invictus

Well obviously the maps are randomly generated so unless London's maps in real life are randomly generated (I doubt it! ;)) they're not going to be alike, though the areas are certainly going to bear resemblance.

There are probably going to be landmark areas within Hellgate: London that are more similar to their real life counterparts.

I want Hellgate: Chicago ;) can you imagine Sears Tower, John Hancock, Trump Tower, Waterview, Marina City… ehh.. That would be great. The subway system in Chicago isn’t that great though ;(

Hellgate: Stockholm! Polar bears for everyone!

On a bit more serius note, it wouldnt suprise me if they made a sequel in another city. It's both an easy way to make a new game and get some cash, and develop their system. If you take a look at the diablo series, the diffrence from 1 to 2 is huge. Diable 2 is one of the few games that deserve to be a sequel, since the system is so much improved. Its not just a new campaign with a few more enemies like most sequels, its a very big improvment between the games. It is possible we will see something similar here.

D2 took years to make. It was as you said a sequel, not an expansion. I'm not prepared to wait two years or more for something marketed as an expansion, heh. Slight difference.

would be strange since that city is already as close to hell you can get..
i mean:
1. you are near the core of the earth.
2. they are fighting a war that kills them one by one..

In my mind, the core of earth is hell.
But I don't belive in hell, so umm...

I guess the concept behind this idea is that the parallel worlds exist, like in the movie series “Sliders”.

who said doom was on mars?
"welcome to mars city"
"the new tech from mars city"
"we can turn mars into 2 earth"

It was established that Doom 3 takes place on Mars early on in the game.

The first two make quick mention of it as well, if I'm not mistaken.

Hellgate: Hong Kong

Hellgate: New York

Hellgate: Los Angeles

Hellgate: Moskow

Hellgate:

You know what.. they could add a doom twist to it and after a few sequels we find out that the demons originated from mars and are acually more like a race of aliens than demons! That would be crazy so like all the demons described in the medieval ages were descriptions of aliens from the planet mars! DUN DUN DUN!

or

If you want to give it a freakier twist you could say that these were the primitive first incarnations of the mysterious "secret-hybrid-ultra race" from starcraft!

TAKE IT EVEN FURTHER!!!

You could advance the hellgate london series to the future and make it starcraft2! So... like once the humans defeated the "demons" on earth.. they descovered worm hole travel through the remains of the demon "hell holes". Then!!!!! Earth launches a fleet to colonize/discover new worlds/recourses.. but they get stranded and become the terran race. But then earth catches them and try to beat them up... but they didn't know of the zerg/protoss race.. so they fight each other and eventually zerg wins and drives earthlings out. Then in the midst of all that foofoo chaos we unrap the "ULTA" race that the xel naga were secretly creating and then we have starcraft2!!!!!!!!!! AHH!!

you know what... I am going start a whole post on my speculation of the future of hellgate story! This will be so cool!

That is a fantastically great (insane?) idea cept for the fact that starcraft is owned by Blizzard. Flagship is not Blizzard, well, not anymore.

Anywhere in Italy, I mean it. Look at the proposed train stations. The designes are out of this world.

Wow. Those proposed train stations remind me of the grandeur of China Mieville's Perdido Street Station.

Killmojo
Saturday, October 15, 2005, 07:27 PM
Those are some mightily impressive train stations. I could definitely see them all destroyed and crawling with demons. I think that maybe the demons would be less brutal and more elegant (like a succubus or something to that effect) to suit the setting.

Sol Invictus
Saturday, October 15, 2005, 07:35 PM
Well, I wouldn't want to play a CounterStrike-esque game in the Hellgate setting. Hellgate's all about death and destruction. There's no reason why it'd have to be all out destruction, though. Half the Napoli Stazione Alta Velocitŕ could be destroyed, for example, and the remaining half would serve as a reminder of the grandeur of that location.

Killmojo
Saturday, October 15, 2005, 07:37 PM
Yea i could live with that. Perhaps the remaining half could be a starting location filled with npc's.

Theres one saying here In Austria that states "THe thinnest book in history is the book of Italy's Heroes" (because they changed sides in WW1 and WW2 and basically betrayed us ;)

but they have great plans for train stations ;)

nother story: I once was in an italian train, and halfway home it began to burn ;) so they might have nice train stations, but their trains tend to burn often ;)
