Hi all,

After some time of following the forums I finally decided to sign up and make a post,

I have been eagerly waiting for the realise of this game ever since I saw a few of the trailers around a year ago. Since then I have been checking up on Hellgate Guru to see what the latest news is on the production of the game, content, storyline and the most important part of a MMO (in my oppinion) the classes.

After doing a bit of reading here and there I decided the "Transformation Cabalist" would be suited most for me untill a little while ago, to my dissapointment, I saw that it had been shelved for some time or even forever, who knows.

I have been tossing up between the 2 remaining choices of Evoker and Summoner untill I watched the class videos from IGN.

Evoker:

First empressions where high as his gear looked rather badass although I was rather dissapointed with a kind of dull "Swarm" spell. "Tempest" came across as a rather weak spell, even though it had a cool effect, that I wouldnt see too much use for it (is it a AoE?). The "Arch Legion" however looked incredibly cool.

Summoner:

Based on what I saw, im going to pick a Summoner as soon as I install the game. I was reasonably impressed with the first couple of pets untill it got to "Reaper". He was, hands down, the best/coolest pet i've seen in any MMO. This huge towering demon that I had only previously seen in a trailer.

Also from all the videos I could find on youtube etc, it seems the Evoker class is constantly strafing, dodging and backing up trying to avoid mobs of zombies, in a medium paced pursuit.

I'm curious as to other peoples oppinions of the 2 from the video, and have a couple of questions to follow regarding the game.

1) Will Evokers and Summoners gain more "demon like" appearances as the game progresses? (I plan to look like a 1/2 Reaper when I reach max level :p )

2) Will there be class specific quests?

3) What class do you think will be the most desired by groups?

Cheers,

Dave

Don't have time to discuss the videos rite now, but may later ;)

But will answer ur questions...

1) As far as we know, they will only change based on their items, their looks won't change themselves... However the shapeshifter class u mentioned will most likely be in the later game through updates, as it's a class FSS has been interested in making. As well as there is a cabalist with a demon arm in the comic, so they probably won't go back on that... It's just that they didn't have time to do one yet...

2) As far as I remember there will be either class, or faction specific quests, but they may be as basic as just getting items for your faction as rewards, don't really know much about them other than that... They have talked of faction standings before, doing quests for certain factions, but I think that may have been scrapped, however in their game Mythos they do have different quests for the 2 classes, so Im very sure there will be at least some.

3) They have said that every class will be as good as the other, so groups won't need certain classes. However in personal opinion, mayb guardians, evokers and marksmen will be popular, some to tank, some to do dmg, specially with the powerlevelling crowd and the hardcore players...

Summoners will probably be popular for hardcore, but not too sure about normal gameplay for the more powerlevelling players, however most groups will be made like in Diablo 2, where ppl don't care at all for which classes join..

Hope that helps, and welcome to the forums :)

While people are speaking of cabalist, it seems like the demons are summoned for a limited time... like 30sec for a Reaper.

I kind of hoped it would be like the golems of D2. No time limit... (it pisses me a lot in GW...)
Is that really the case? And what's the impact on the gameplay? :|

Summon Reaper
Skill Groups: Minion
Description: The Summoner calls forth a lesser demon lord. The dark creature cannot be bound to this plane and will return to the underworld after a certain time.
Power Cost: 100
Rate of Use: Every 300.0 seconds
Max Skill Rank: 5
Effect: Reaper is bound to this world for 20.0 seconds
Off the HGG database...

So yeah, it does disappear

However the other minions do not, so I think it's just this one as it's a bit overpowering, so shouldn't be too bad...

Yeah spet has the gist of it harb.

Now to the questions.
1. Spet is right about the appearance of any of the cabalists except that of the Transformation Cabalist, the only change in looks for most Cabalists will be their gear.

2. As of now, yes there will be class spacific quests, most likely to obtain your first focus maybe, and maybe one near the end to obtain a better than normal focus.

3. Out of the two Cabalist classes currently available at lower lvls the evoker would be like more by a group, but it would equal out eventually as the summoner gains significant fire power once it gets up in lvl, as far as I can tell from the video. So after about mid way it should lvl out between which two are liked. As for other classes, the Guardian will most always be a crowd pleaser if just for the fact that it will allow other players to dish out dmg more effectively because they won't have to worry about monsters that much, as well as the little heals it can provide.

Wow thanks for the speedy and helpful responses,

Cheers for clearing up that up about the shapeshifting class, I will keep an eye out.

Still no comments on what people thought of the videos

I had never seen a cabalist video that really caught my atention, but in these last two, the ones that featured one class each, that evoker armor looked pretty damn awesome. It's the first one that I've seen and suprised me. But still playing a Blademaster (because it was the first cinematic in 2005 that got me into this), and the play a marksman (because I'm a FPS whore:p)

GW doesn't really put a time limit on the minions. Granted, their degen does increase over time, but you can still keep them alive for pretty much as long as you want (one time, I was in the middle of clearing an area, but then had to go on a trip for about two hours, and I just kept GW running, when I came back, my Flesh Golem was still alive.) Maybe not as good as D2, but they'll last longer than the Reaper (granted, if I left HG:L running for 2 hours while I was afk, I'd expect to be dead when I came back)

I also disagree with the Reaper having a very short time in this realm....I would much rather see a balanced pet that looks as cool as the reaper that will stay indefinitely....or perhaps you could sac all your pets and have only the reaper out in exchange...that's something that's been bothering me since I read the Summoner skill tree.

Yeah, me too. I doubt I'm going to use the Reaper very much with its extremely limited duration. A waste of skills points if you ask me.

It might be out forl ittle duration but it could be a life saverm surrounded by alot of mobs and then you pop it out and your safe. Its shport life span its covered up by its overpoweredness.

Well, the Reaper appears to be something of an "Oh shit" button. In other words, something that can save the day when things go bad. I can imagine it being popular in Hardcore, aswell as in PvP, where a short burst in fighting power really can decide everything.
