View Full Version : What Trees? (Evokers)

Okay, i'm wondering what trees you Evokers are going to specialize in. If I recall right, the Evoker has a Toxic, Fire, Electric, and Spectral tree for spells. What I'm interested in, is what trees are you going to specialize in? I'm really thinking of only 2, but maybe 3.
Mine are definitly going to be Electric, and it's between Fire or Spectral for the other 2.
How about you guys?

Depends on what enemy resistances and stuff are like, but Im guessing I'll go 3 different trees one for short range, one for medium and one for long
I like the idea of Spectral as it seems to have effects like curses though which make the enemy have less def and do less dmg for a bit, which culd be helpful in group situations, although i also like to do massive solo spells that are helpful to me, so wateva tree has the biggest cool looking spell I may spec in that some....
Other than that mayb some fire too, poison doesnt really appeal to me as damage over time isn't something I care bout, I prefer one massive dmg spell at once with a larger cooldown....

I really have to wait and see on this one.
Ill probibally go lightning, but i need to see whats what, and see the way different trees interact with each other.

Agreed. Poison is cool and all. I play a Warlock in WoW, and i love my DoTs, but i just don't think it's gonna work for my evoker (first one at least :P ) Spectral seems pretty cool, but I think Fire will be harder hitting. But i've always liked lightning. Just conjuring it I think is awesome. :P

Toxic and spectral sounds cool :) But ye, coolness isn't always equal to effectivity. I'm gonna wait and intercept more info regarding this matter before I decide.

spectral and lightning
i will try to concentrate on 3-4 styles and adjust my tactics around them
i only hope the evoker isnt helpless when facing boss mobs solo, being all that squishy ...

Yeah. Poor Iconoclast can't have Frost Orb :(
So yes, i heard about this "Bone" tree. I assume it's similar to the necro's of D2. But what damage does it deal? Spectral or what? I was thinkign Physical perhaps, but I heard they don't have a tree for that. Do any of you know?

LOL that reminds me of something I used to love to do in the original Diablo. The last level before you went to hell. There was this pen that was rectangular in shape. There were always mobs inside of it. I would always go up to the gate, open the door and start laying down firewalls inside of it.
Also in nightmare mode, go to level one with chain lightning. You always found jail cells full of skeletons. One shot and they all fall over at the same time.
Fun fun

If my hopes for lightning and spectral go well, I would probably take those. I am looking for crowd control and support with spectral, along with huge damage bursts with lightning.
If lightning fails, let us do fire.

Fire and Lightning for me! Though Spectral seems pretty cool.

Well, from what i've read, most trees fill their own little purpose. Fire is extreme damage at short range while spectral the number one long range tree. Lighting is apparently medium range, but it's not all that suited as a primary tree, and is better off complementing as a secondary one. I can't remember exactly where i read this, but i think it might have been on IGN (They're the ones that wrote a little more in depth on all the classes, right?).

BEES IN THE EYES!!!
Swarm - Throws out a swarm of bugs that do toxic damage and cause fear. The toxic swarm is a self-targeting homing projectile that chases baddies pretty much anywhere they go. If successfully poisoned by the attack, monsters cannot heal and will lose health continually.
Sounds like a post repeat Hmmm.
Toxic for that one Skill, max it out as much as possible.
If Not, the Lightning Tree Sounds Fun:
Arc Legion - Causes forks of electricity to erupt from an Evoker’s Focus device(s) and has a very “Dark Side of the Force” feel to it. When triggered, the Arc Legion shoots 10 arcs of electricity over one or two Focus items. Each individual arc can shock an enemy, interrupting its actions. Focusing all 10 arcs on a single monster results in a greater chance a shock will be effective and also inflicts 10x damage multipliers on that character.
And of course, I'll have to Dual weild Focus Glove things. Hmm, idea for a Photoshop...

Someone earlier was talking about trees correlating to range of the spell and such.
http://pc.ign.com/articles/797/797854p1.html this is the article where they mention that.
Spectral: Talks about mid range (Spectral Bolt) and long range(Spectral Lash)
Fire: Close range spells(probably along the lines of inferno). Low level Firestorm and a higher level Hellfire
Lightning: Seems to be alot of support skills with the exception of Arc Legion of course
Toxic: Another set of mainly support skills. The 2 types of posion shields sound really cool. Venom Armor for close range evoker, and Venomomous Spirit for longer range. Venemous spirit was said to do damage as well as cause a fear effect on attackers(awesome).
Other spells mentioned were Word of Fear, Blink, and Drain power.
I will definitely be going poison for my support school and...maybe spectral? Just dont know.

probably lightning tree as main, for tempest which seems to have a good aoe, and for arc legion which you can focus on one enemy for 10x damage multiplier, which seems like its good for bosses and big guys. spectral as a secondary because spectral lash/spectral bolt both look really nasty and the whole "spectral" tree kind of suggests debuffs, defense lowering, DoT, etc.
then again, i may have to lean more towards the toxic tree instead of spectral. it just looks badass.
[edit] i didnt realized evokers could have dual focus items, thats even more badass.
[edit 2] im interested to see how the player is able to control arc legion, and how you can focus it on a single enemy.

I'm interested in the Bone tree now too. Does it do Physical damage, does anybody know?
I'm having a tough dilemna. I think the only tree i've narrowed out is Toxic :(

I'm most likely going to be rolling Summoner upon release Then Engineer, then Evoker. But if/when I roll an Evoker and I have gained more knowledge about the class that I dont already know (which is very likely :P) Id go with either of these two routes
Fire/Poison: Poison for the DoT's and Poison Armor's you get which will be handy for the close encounters that will most likely occur. Then Fire for the close range massive AoE damage that it deals. That way as I said, I'll be able to run up and AoE large groups and quite possibly the poison armors will help with the damage and absorb damage.
Fire/Lightning: They say lightning is massive AoE at a medium/long range so depending on how effective this build will be I can see maxing out a close range AoE and a longer range AoE to be effective in groups ^^ but we'll see

I'm going spectral, lightning field
http://hellgate.ingame.de/skilltree/evoker/?l=50&s=002103001a8000001a0000a03000
Although there is no close range, I rarely play solo. I wouldn't suggest putting more than one into dual focus, since willpower is a majority of stats. Brom's curse was a decision made from impatience, but I won't know how many point I want in it. Being only lvl 22 in elite the three total points allow my BM friend to rip through about anything while I just phase, fear, and do select dps.

Lightning and Poison all the way. :D
I PvP almost as much as I PvE so shutting down skills, spells, healing and regen makes for lots of fun (for me).
Edit: The thread necromancy is strong in this one. ;)
