View Full Version : Fansite Program Pruning
Scapes

As discussed in a news article (http://www.hellgateguru.com/forum/showthread.php?t=352) in October, a number of fansites have dropped off the face of the internet. A recent check of the Fansite Program (http://flagshipstudios.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=40&Itemid=41) page shows that most of the zombies have been vanquished. Additionally, there are now two new banner links:
http://flagshipstudios.com/images/stories/fansites/hellgateguruforum.gif (http://www.hellgateguru.com/forum/)
http://flagshipstudios.com/images/stories/fansites/flagshipforums.gif (http://www.flagshipforums.com/)
The community grows ever more solidified.
EDIT: Noticing that another fansite has fallen prey to the zombification virus:

No doubt the pruning is an ongoing process with removals based on Flagship Studio's judgement.

It looks like the Ultimate Gamers site stopped covering Hellgate: London even though they have an FSS logo on their page. Hrm.
As for HellgateRPG/Blizzplanet it appears that as the HellgateRPG site itself is a 404, the Blizzplanet site hasn't been updated since Nov 9th, and Medievaldragon (the guy who runs it) hasn't posted on their own forum for weeks now. I'm not sure what's going on, but if I can find someone who knows them, I might be able to find out.
Another thing: I don't know if Blizzplanet's always been this way but it looks like the "Posted by" in each news post should be followed by someone's name, but there isn't a name on any of the posts there, so it just says "Posted by ". Could be something's wrong?

Yes, Ultimate Gamers has been focusing a great deal on World Of Warcraft over the past few months.
No Hellgate: London related posts since April, to be exact.

Well, some ppl sure like to leave unfinished business arround....
IMO, there were already too many HG:L fansites, and It seemed sure that some would close because the last few months there was very little to report about HG:L.
Sounds stupid, but only the best survive. Same with communities/fansites. Who wants to look at some site no'one takes care of?
Lets put it that way: you wont use shader v1.0 if you might as well use 3.0...

And, as discussed in the Zombified Fansite thread, another two sites have disappeared from them thar intarweb over yonder and have been subsequently removed from the Fansite Program (http://flagshipstudios.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=40&Itemid=41):
http://www.flagshipstudios.com/images/stories/fansites/hellgaterpg.gif (http://www.hellgaterpg.com/)
http://www.flagshipstudios.com/images/stories/fansites/projecthellgate_logo.jpg (http://www.projecthellgate.com/)
May they rest in peace and whathaveyou. Additionally, the order of the sites on the Program webpage (http://flagshipstudios.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=40&Itemid=41) has been changed some.

Hopefully the developers are not getting discouraged about the fact that Hellgate doesn't seem to be getting that much recognition from the online gaming community.

Flagship Pirates (http://www.flagship-pirates.de/) has dropped off the Fansite Program.
As you can see, it appears the site has been baleeted.

Another site bites the dust. Such is the way with gaming fan sites. Eventually, there will only be a handfull of good sites that will stay throughout the game (i.e. 4-5 years after launch). Hellgate Guru will be one of these sites.

The spanish fansites are alive and running. But Hellgate-Spain.com have some problems right now. Hope they can get back on bussines soon.
