I always prefer money driven auction house type economies. Easier to find a buyer without having to be online and also easier to find an item you're wanting. D2's economy led me to use only the items I found through magic finding, although.. it did lead to more replayability.

There definitely should be some form of Auction House imho. It's so much easier to throw an item up on the AH and forget about instead of spamming "WTB World Destroyer! 500g OBO!" for hours on end.
That way you can multi-task instead of spending your free time as a used car salesman.

I like a mix of both, trading items can be useful if you want to play the economy and have that aspect of the game, starting with little and bartering your way to big lootz, however auction houses make it more fair for new players to know prices...

I'm pretty sure a mix is what we will be getting since there have already been comments of some sort of AH and with this D2 like randomization ussually comes p2p trading. FS will find away to please all of us, can't wait.

$. Easy, convenient. Theres a reason why we don't walk around bartering shit still in real life.

I hate fake $ with a passion.
i like the ability to barter for my goods, even scam retards for them, not "pay 5pal or ill sell to some one else biotch"

I think it'd be better to have an Auction House. That way if you enjoy the barter system you can use it if you want to (or if you want to sell a hot item fast).
If we don't have the option to AH items... then I think it's more likely that HG:L will have economy problems like D2 did.

True true.
It's fancy, simple and most of all fast.

I think for the convenience, it would be good to have an auction house. I suppose both would make sense in context of the story...
ie: I found an item, it was really hard to find. Well we have no currency - LETS BARTER!
ie: I found an item, it was really hard to find. Well, palladium can be used for so much nowadays, its practically currency - LETS AUCTION!
I think too much focus on swapping is a pain because you have to become "intimate" with the seller - whereas auction houses are a one night stand to the highest bidder.

This is good question...
I'd say I want it to be runned by money.
Items are just stupid to farm. Goldfarm is too, but you gain that all the time. Item farm is REALLY hard and time-needing work. Please, pleeaase, dont do it like Diablo II did it, there was rarely anykind of trading in my 3 years.
Balance is... OK, but its hard to keep balance between these two.
