Looking at all the juicy hunter videos out there made me wonder if FSS has mentioned if the hunters have the ability to ya'know. Store up their shots till it glows purple before you release it for some nice damage and particle effects.

I think that'd be a really nice system to implemment and it gives you FPS freaks out there a reason to aim as well

Flame on :o

I could see it happen with a few of the guns. Switch between rapid fire and charge up.

At first thought i was thinking of a massive flame attack on you.......
but actually this isn't so terribly bad, i mean really it works a lot like concentrate from d2 with the barbarian.. so long as lowering the defence is in there it's not so bad

couple of things though.. how would adding extra skill points to it affect it ??
-extra level of charge
-increased speed of charge
- increased damage

personally im in favor of the last 2, also i would want a maximum amount u can run around with the damn thing charged or else against the super hard bosses u just run away, charge up maximum and then come around and hit, wash rinse repeat... cheap uberboss kills

THIS HAS TO BE HUNTER ONLY BTW !!!

Those final 2 factors you mentioned sounds good.

I'm thinking more of a system that gives you an incentive for people to play in an FPS view, but doesn't overly put people who play in 3rd person at a disadvantage.

I always loved storing up a bit of power for mainly the special effects.

And yea, Hunter Only perk. Gives us an advantage to use firearms since every other class can use our weapons.

Wished i made a poll on this topic :P

Yeah, I think that would work. More diversity and choice with different guns. Balancing issue would be the only problem. Keeping the cool gun with that option equal with the one that doesn't.

It would need to add some area effect, though, otherwise nobody will use it no matter how good it is. (This is why they removed a very similar barbarian attack during development of D2)

The Blob gun in Unreal Tournament kinda worked like that. I think it's a good idea.

Meh some guns do it, but generally im out for that one, as much as i am into the Megaman series, i hafta disagree cause im either into the swords or the automaticly high powered fast firing rifles, which is what the hunter uses. The whole charge up thing would be like, for example, the blob gun from UT GOTY, or the BFG from Doom 3, some weapons can have it, but most of them shouldnt.

That would be awesome if they had weapons like that.

I don't it should be a skill though. Just get a powerful shot the longer you hold down the fire button, possibly AoE, possibly as a "defense breaker" kind of move (you're really reminding me of Metroid Prime).

I like the idea.

Several FPS'ers use this with grenades too. You can throw it right away, it will travel a greater distance and explode after 3 seconds. Or you hold on to it a few seconds, throw it and it will explode as soon as it hits the floor (or an enemy).

Maybe have it a Marksman only skill?

I only see this happening for the energy weapons mind you. Perhaps capacitor upgrade will allow you to 'charge' up? I can't see a weapon like the Spike Bolter charging up. But the Cluster Rifle should beable to fire 3 shots at the same time (significant cool down required).

Maybe have it a Marksman only skill?

Agreed - gives an incentive to be a marksman rather than rely on drones/droids.

Eh, Templars can't use Rifles. A lot of the weapons in-game are faction-specific.

However, it would be an interesting Skill to use. Don't like it as just an inherent ability, though.

no one really knows what pvp will be like

but i see a bunch of hunters sitting together with big glowing balls
melee comes around the corner and all charge up skills converge dealing massive damage and they are dead? abuse?

I think it could be an interesting skill/gun ability that could be balanced. I tend to agree that it should be marksman only and not engineer.

Engineer already has the support drones/bot anyway.

Wooo, charge of the freeze beam baby hell yes - metroid it up.

Would be a nice way of satisfying those whom are in favor of precise shots and hitboxes. Reasonalbe solution.. we shall see.

But yes, would be easiest to make on certain weapons (energy) i would think.. but would take some balancing.

But if was a skill for any fire arm it would take even more balancing and changing... maybe a energy wep only skill. hehe.

Or better yet, charge skill for the hunter specific rifles only =] hmm

Anyone ever bust the fully charged energy pistol / switch to magnum in Halo 1? Although I didn't use that combo too much in campaign, it sure was fun in PVP.

Resurrecting a thread from the dead...
Just wanted to mention: It doesn't need to be a skill, and neither does it have to be on specific guns. Having it as a mod would work just as well, or even better.

This could easily be balanced Metroid-style. I think it's a pretty basic idea. If it isn't in the game I'll actually be somewhat surprised.

I think it also needs to have a timer. Once you fully charge your shot, you have to fire it within a few seconds, or it'll short out/explode/divide by zero.

Yep in fact the Bio-sludge gun was my fav weapon in UT mainly coz it was the only weapon that could hold a full charge indefinitely ;)
