4Gamer has a preview in Japanese (http://www.4gamer.net/news.php?url=/news/history/2005.11/20051114034920detail.html) of Hellgate: London for all you Japanese readers out there. The preview mentions that they have progressed quite a bit in the game's development since E3 and that work on the 5 Acts in Hellgate: London are well underway and that the storyline is completely done.
With some new details about the game, the preview also mentions the new implementation of the Accuracy stat, and provides an example in which low level players with few points in the Accuracy stat would fire all over the place, firing at towards the general vicinity of the enemy rather than at the enemy itself.
It is mentioned that safe zones in Hellgate: London allow the player to communicate with other players (if online), buy and sell upgrades from merchants, and collect and complete quests.
Furthermore, there are three types of quests available to the player:
* Story Quest
* General Quest
* Class Quest
Similar to FATE (http://www.fatethegame.com), Hellgate: London has a newly implemented reputation parameter that increases with subsequent quest completion, allowing the player to take on superior quests, which depend on his reputation. This is rewarding, because the player will be able to take on even greater challenges as they become available through his reputation, in addition to making money and earning rewards from the quests themselves. Based on the interview, however, it is unknown at this point whether the general and class related quests will be randomly generated, with randomly assigned named mobs (as per FATE) or if they will be pulled from a pregenerated quest selection pool.
There are to be three kinds of skills for the Templar character, including Offense, Defense and Auras. One such Offensive skill is the "Whirlwind" skill, which is similar to the one used by the Barbarian character in Diablo 2. The implementation of this skill should prove quite satisfying for those of us who enjoyed playing the Barbarian.
In regards to the use of portals in Hellgate: London, it has done away with the Town Portal Scroll from typical MMORPGs and RPGs, and gone instead with a skill that allows you to teleport to safe zones and Way Points out in the wilderness. In addition to this ability, the player will be able to make use of the "Speed Booster" skill that allows you to get from place to place pretty quickly if you want to avoid monsters along the way.
Also included in the preview are portrait headshots of the Female Templar that properly reflect the equipment she's wearing, and screenshots of a named mob: Kerachun the Hallowed (http://www.4gamer.net/news/image/2005.11/20051114034920_3big.html)
