In multiplayer, there is a graphics option called "Outfit Limit". It basically makes your clothes look shiney. For some reason or other, this option is not available in singleplayer.
However, if you log in to a multiplayer character and set the Outfit Limit from there, the changes will carry over to singleplayer.
I thought the rest of you might like to know this.

If you can do it that way, I am sure you can do it by manually modifying a switch in a file too. I'll look into it later - especially as I dont even have the MP side patched up, so I am not even sure if that option is there in retail MP patch level?

It is a new option in Multiplayer as part of Patch 1.0 and it is 'supposed to' be realted directly to seeing other peoples models.Intersting 'bug/feature' you found.

From the official forum:
The Outfit Limit makes all other players' gear more uniform, reducing processor demand.
Leaving it off keeps them as they should be.

So that's why it's not available in singleplayer.
I'm not sure about the "more uniform" part, however. My experimentation seems to show that the outfit limit makes armour look more reflective and shiney. I suppose if you like that look, you can still use the method in the original post to get it configured for singleplayer.

So leaving Outfit Limit OFF means there's NO limit to anyone's uniform you see?

Apparently that's what it means. Generally people tend to think that "Very High" is better, but according to the official forum, "Off" is the highest quality option in this case.
So, sorry if I confused anyone with my initial assumption that this option makes graphics "better". Apparently it doesn't. :???:
