View Full Version : Is it just me or are Elite Evokers stupid hard

I am currently working on an Elite Evoker, and I have got to say it is easily one of the most frustrating experiences I have ever had in online gaming. I have 3 other elite characters that are at the same junction content wise and they have been nowhere near as difficult.

I'm only level 11 now, so unfortunately I don't have access to survival essential things like venom armor, blink, or anything like that. I'll post my build as soon as I am able. I mean I guess the point I'm trying to get at is do Evokers just start slow, and get much much better later? As it stands now the pile of mobs coming at me is either dead in seconds, or I'm dead in seconds :D

Evokers are squishy, just keep that in mind and you should be fine :P I got to 15 and realised he was to squishy for my taste

Yeah you have to pay attention a bit more and kite off mobs little by little and not try and take on whole groups unless you are SURE you can kill them before they kill your shields...

I am beggining to realize this more and more about evokers in elite. I have a Blademaster around the same level, and I've got to say that the evoker is much much more challenging. The Blademaster requires cautious play, the evoker demands methodical borderline tedious play. The margin of error on an evoker is non-existent in comparison to the other classes I've tried in elite. One mistake and I don't even get time to hit a health pack. If all else fails I'll just have to group exclusively

It has a lot to do with playing style. I'm finding guardian to be far more forgiving of blatant stupidity than evoker. However, I have an evoker "tank," with 1725 hp and 80% damage reduction at lvl 50 elite. Guardian also does more dps, but it is all at point blank and little can get close to a well equipped evoker. (I found myself comfortably fighting mods 7 levels above me. 10 levels above got ridiculous en route to hell solo.)

It makes sense really though, I mean when you start an evoker, you have like no skills and since the way you kill things and survive is with lots of skills, its gonna be harder in the first few levels.
Later on, Evokers are really fun to play though and they are quite damn powerful, so its just a matter of time.

I had it easy for the first part of elite, since at level 3 I got handed a focus item with +2 spec lash on it, then used antoher one in the offhand till higher level, so leveling at low levels was really easy :P

Some tipps:
In elite must 10 in venom armor, not need to max only need 4 points and get 2x 3 venom armor focus weapons and use it for precast.
The venom armor rate is increasing by char lvl so easy to get 600-800 maybe 900 armor @ clvl50 if u have some nice armored items.
The strategy key is mixing many skills. Etc. i use left click arc legion + right click lightning field, and i cast first lvl10 venom armor, if standing i cast concentrate damage +tempest(do more damage with concdam) and throwing some swarm, maybe hellfire for ignite(i have +3hellfire from main weapon), and arcane shield for recharge shields. And if many mobs are around cast brom's curse too, nice life leech. Use afterlife to refill your life from corpses, u can use under injector time too.
So, i have atm 18xx life and 844 armor on lvl42 my surviveing rate is very high imo.
With nice setup and skills: evokers are roxx.

Anyway, the Evoker class:

DPS about the same as hunter weapons on autofire. But it costs you Power to use them.

For raw damage, the +% damage to Evoker skills and basic +%damage affixes multiply with one another, and are necessary to be competitive to a Marksman with mediocre equipment.

Remember you are fragile. Don't get hit. Put one point in Arcane Shield...use as often as needed. I don't have Venom Armor and don't know if i'll even pick it up. Not planning on it. Lash is your friend.

I've tested out quite a few characters on elite. I'd have to say evoker/summoner were the slowest first few levels and became more irritating than enjoyable. So I would say they're not hard per se - it's just due to being squishy, they're not particularly the greatest class for the first few levels (or until you get good gear to make up for the squishyness).

They're not notably more fragile than a Hunter. It's lack of damage.

Summoners only gain more and more damage with skill points; Evokers have Concentrate Damage and, on the servers, Firestorm.

I make judicious use of Spectral Lash - if Venomous Spirit wasn't on a timer and was any good I might have been content with it.

Basically it's bad until you get tempest, which I thankfully got earlier on from a focus my other char found (or at least it was for me since I was building a pure lighting based evoker). And then it's pretty fun and easy from then on. But yes the initial levels can be really annoying.

Evoker is hard to start out.
I find that I am constantly running backwards and shooting using the mini map to guide me.
Perhaps we could get an option to turn the mini map into a rear view mirror so I do not corner myself as much.

Evoker truly having a hard time at early levels.

I try defeat Shulgoth, takes almost 15 mins approx.. Its like you playing Sorcerer in Diablo 2. Killing Blood Raven takes a hard time for you.

So choosing skills and putting the correct attributes and gears are very vital.

Fairly sure it's been said, but having made (and remade) many elite chars, evokers tend to be the toughest early on. Once you hit lvl 20 (depending on your build), things will turn around... and once you start rocking 35+, they can become godly.

I really have an opposite view on this topic because there were only very few times that I had difficulty in playing my elite evoker (I think the elite Blademaster is the hardest and most frustrating to play). Yes, in the beginning it can be hard because you still dont have those DIRECT spells like Spectral Lash/Arc Legion to pick out enemies. If your level is still low, you may also not have the AREA spells yet like LightingField/Tempest. Once you acquire any of these skills i'm sure it will be easy.

Here is what I can share on Evokers based on my personal experience

Evokers actually have EVERYTHING they need. They have a TANK (SUMMON EMBER). When they need power and life, they can get it from enemies (BROM's CURSE + DRAIN POWER). They can easily pick which enemies to take out first because of the DIRECT spells - Spectral Lash and Arc Legion (ARC LEGION is a direct spell BUT it also targets NEARBY enemies). Lastly, evokers can kill groups of enemies REALLY quick (LIGHTNING FIELD + TEMPEST+ SPECTRAL CURSE + ARC LEGION), and sometimes even bosses too

My problem was with boss gangs such as zombie summomers and imp/gremlim diabolists....I had a hard time in some areas especially with spined stalkers and other fireball tossing annoyances! I tended to stand back, use spectal bolt and power injectors to clear the area and keep blasting the 'boss' with venomous spirit and flameshards (got it off a focus item) and, though it took time, it worked in the end. But yeah, Shulgoth was a breeze (got spectral lash early from an item) and most main bosses were relatively easy with lash, orbiles and so forth die easy with it! He's quite impressive now! One thing i did notice, a lot of people seem to ignore evoker pistols but I cleared all of the Lucius Aldin areas (Death's so on) with a Beetlebore and Hive Crystal, blasting like mad and grinding everything into paste, even Blade/Lightning Husks/Minions! Invest in some good pistols is my advice, they can get you out of a few fixes.
