View Full Version : Seems like not everyone knows elite is free!

Personally I don't see a reason to play a game like this on anything other than the hardest difficulty (excepting the masochism that is any hardcore mode). Unfortunately it seems that not many people are playing elite. I've been wondering why this is and I think maybe the reason is that people don't know elite mode is free. I still see people saying it requires a sub in the general chat.

Um. Just a friendly heads up. Id duck and run before any of the other SPers read your post. We dont have Elite mode and we are kinda sensitive about it...:)

I dont play elite because I cant use the items I find there for normal chars. And since I want to pvp I play on normal with those chars. I think any pvp char will roll normal since some pvp builds will be hard to level in elite + normal is faster.

You just open a big can of worms for the SPers. FSS is *blip* for *blip* SPers *blip*. After I have completed the game with my evoker, my act 5 blademaster and marksman will have to wait while I level up my summoner in mlti-player mode.
The thing is I level my summoner online totally solo. I just want to try elite mode.

Am I confused about something or do Single Players also have the chance to create Multiplayer characters as well? I thought when i bought the game it gave me both options? I don't understand how people that can play Elite can complain about not having it?

This argument again? I don't feel like rehashing everything that was said in the last thread, so I'll just quote from it.
You said it well, Hannya, so I hope you don't mind if I use your words.
First thing, not all SP'ers play SP by choice (take care to read relevant topic in SP subforum before making such assumptions). There are people with unstable / too slow connections, people living in "difficult" timezones, people with some RL issues, and perhaps others with reasons of their own.
Second thing, even those that play SP purely by choice (as I do) have every right to expect a fully functional and up-to-date product. The game was labelled as supporting both mods, period. The fact they are both part of the same game is irrelevant, as some people (myself included) wouldn't even consider buying it if SP mode was not supported. But FSS said it is. They promised, we paid, we have every right to expect them to deliver as promised. That includes bugfixes and executable patch files, as "internet connetcion required" was not seen on the game box (really, even Bioshock has executable patch file, and that game requires net connection for installation!). We are by no means entitled to any of the subscriber content (even though I believe some of us would gladly pay for it were it available for offline play), but we have every right to expect everything that free MP players get. That's all there is to it.

I would be playing elite, but I completely botched my guardian attempting to rush through normal. I managed to get to act V completely skipping just about everything, having no idea what the hell I was doing there, or what lead to me getting there, and oh I was level 16 and putting points into things randomly thinking I could just breeze through. So being the utter perfectionist I am instead of going back and doing some quests and getting my character up to speed, I got rid of it entirely and rerolled as an engineer. This time around I'm being more careful, but I fully aim to play Elite exclusively after I complete normal, and at this pace that should happen sunday... although it could happen early saturday if my lovely fiancee lets me play for 12 hours, starting tonight =)

I love elite personally but not everyone likes a challnge. Some people just wanna look awesome and say hey i can kill stuff in 1 hit and then their epeens get cut to size in elite.

Yeah I actually know people like that, I don't see the merit in it though. I come from the school that what you earn is more rewarding the more difficult it is to obtain. Some think otherwise and that's ok.

As a player of boh modes of difficulty i have to defend the many normal players who don't feel like this.
I love playing Normal with my MM (he was my first character and i nvested alot of time in him and enjoy playing him alot) I then created a BM on normal to utilise the many high level items my MM found and i really enjoy playing him and as a BM its alot more challenging than playing my MM.
I also have a lvl 21 Elite Evoker who is great fun but in a totally different way, my MM and BM are cool to play for laughs, when i have a spare hour or two and especially the MM doesnt require alot of effort to play and now hes lvl 41 at Monument station the game has once again become challenging for him again.
When i have a a long time to play and im in the mood for more of a lengthy fight i play my Evoker.
Elite mode is not always more challenging either, it just requires more time to get through any given area, the mobs dont have different attacks or behave more aggresively, for instance a Guardian can still perma stun his way through elite just as they do on normal, and its also notable that while you taunt normal mode players about the 'epeens' my experience is that Elite players are the worst for that. They are so, well.. elitist, like no other non-elite player has any merit or credibility.
Also notable is the fact that most elite players of high level ive seen are MM or Guardians, with most being guardians.... who are insanely easy to level on elite compared to say a BM.
Both modes have their merit and if im honest i prefer Normal but i enjoy both modes when im in the relevant mood.

The one thing I will admit that absolutely sucks ass about Elite is grouping, it seems there are only like 5-6 on the page at any given time, and most of the time I try to join a party some asshole will shout "KICK" and I get booted for no reason.

I started playing knowing i was going to end up in elite mode so I created a normal character that I wanted to fuck around with but not take to seriously.... which was the blademaster.
The Fury, if you're on the shulgoth server, the guild Dread is an elite only guild. If you're in the 30's on your elite i'm sure they'll let you in. Believe the guild leader is Thymed. They seem like a very active guild, always farming/running shit all the time.

Advantages of normal mode: cheaper gear, thus easier to set up your pvp chars; easier monsters, thus easier for you to get to end of the game and easier to level up, less time to get to lvl 50 and less time to get to St. Paul's station (although it isn't necessary to get there to duel, of course...). Also, more players on normal mode, so it's easier to find a duel game there. Alot more popular..
Elite is more pvm-oriented, in my opinion. Plus, the items on elite are a bit more expensive. It's more practical to play on normal mode if you want to duel.
