View Full Version : Do people even bother playing the free version of HGL?

I used to post often.... mainly because I coulden't play as the game was on it's 3rd or 4th crash of the evening. Now that they fixed the crashing and I could play more I am so bored to tears with the shallow gameplay I seriously have little to no interest in the IP all together.

Over all HGL gets a big fat...

...when it comes to keeping me interested. I have a very hard time imagining how this game would have pleased it's customers even with the content that was promised prerelease. Anyone else just lost the will to bother with HGL even when it's free? lol

Hey I have a great story for you. I'm a sub and I haven't played for maybe over a month, save the occasional 10-minute sessions. Just look at my post count :lololololololololololol:.

The other half of the truth
=====================
The main reason I'm not playing is because of the dreading long loading time. So until I get myself an extra 2GB then.

This game works on virtually the same premise as guild wars and ive been playing that for over 2 years, and that only has a max level of 20. So shove that up your beep beep and smoke it :P

Some people just bore easier then the rest, if you dont like it play something else.

I'm flame resistant say what ever you want lol

I don't hate HGL at all infact I found it entertaining for a bit of time, but for a game coming from such talent all the fun has worn off way too quickly. I feel as if I didn't get my monies worth, even for the 50 bucks I spent on the box.

Now I'm looking forward to a game coming out with solid lore, better storylines, and recognizable main characters. Can you guess what it is?

Age of Conan sucks, apparently...

I would be interested to play the witcher, or maybe I'll just dust off Medieval Total War 2 to see how it runs on my new quad core rig...

I highly suggest you get The Witcher. It's a 5 Star game and full of win. I have not played such a great game in years.

I have to disagree. I downloaded the demo and tried it, and it sucked to high heaven. The control system was virtually impossible to understand. I cant understand why and how it got 5 stars.

Atmophere, Easy to use combat, atmosphere, storyline, atmosphere, Nice voice acting, atmosphere, you get to bang over 24 different ladies, atmosphere, incredible graphics, atmosphere, multiple endings, atmosphere, fun crafting system, atmosphere, fun in game gambling, atmosphere!!

oh and atmosphere  The world feels alive and every act is a pleasure to complete. One of the first ladies you enjoy more intimate pleasures with takes you to an old mill as long as you bring the wine. Accross the river the town guards hear the two of you and start commenting about how the old mill is haunted again by beasts. I lol'd out loud.

I can't speak for the demo as I went straight to the meat and potatos. Combat is as simple as 3 click combos. You swing at your target, wait for your mouse to turn into a little flashy sword looking thing, click again to continue your combo. If you don't time it right you have to start the combo over. There are three different combat styles that are easy to switch between. Heavy, Fast, and Group. Aginst slow opponents you use heavy, aginst agile opponents use fast, aginst multiple enemies use group. If your using the wrong style you'll get blocked/evaded often.

It's VERY simple to learn the timing and styles quickly.

Easy to use combat? are you joking! I tried the demo and I didnt have a single clue what I was doing and there was no instructions to help.

As for atmosphere, are you talking about the constant "mature" language to try and make the game more adult orientated! Its funny for the first 5 minutes and then its just a bit over the top.

As for graphics.... on my top spec machine the graphics were jumping because it couldnt refresh the screen fast enough and the characters were animated inside one another.

I wouldnt say they were top notch graphics.

I gave up after 10 minutes and just uninstalled it because it was unplayable with the controls.

you updated you post...

...I tried that whole clicking and waiting for it to turn red and I had no feeling for what was going on. It just didnt feel fun or make sense to me at all.

I like to feel im hurting a target and I had none of that.

Again I'm not sure what the demo covers. If it's just the first big fight defending the keep aginst the wizard, then you haven't even scratched the surface of how deep the game is. They do start you off in a chaotic way and it takes getting used to. Once your out on your own, the world is yours and you get to mess with your skills, crafting, and learn lots of goodies.

Role playing games are not for you then. Stick to your halo2 ;)

I can see what you are getting at, and yeah it makes sense, as the game goes on it's going to make more and more sense to subscribe to ensure that your experience remains fresh in some aspect. I'm already salivating over Stonehenge, so if they can keep putting updates like that out, put in some new classes, new skills, new items, and throw in some group pvp of some sort (CTF, Objective, Team Death Match...whatever) and maybe some ultra fucking hard group content and I think I'll be playing this game until they decide it's time for HG:L 2 =)

If I wasn't a sub, and had no intent on becoming one, and FSS didn't give me enough to want to become one... then yeah this shit would be collecting dust within 3-4 months. Although I can say that about any other game that is out right now, or that I've purchased the only ones that keep me coming back for more are the ones with the tastiest carrots at the end of the longest sticks.

That's just par for the course, once you get to a certain point it's just running the same areas over and over again. Which is good if you like that sort of thing :p

I don't find the grind in this to be nearly as mind numbing as it was in D2, especially Bloody Foothills *shudder*

Bloody runs atleast went alot faster with less lag, and were alot funner to accomplish with friends.

Oh they were fun if you had an A1 mass murder everything on the screen build, if you didn't you essentially sat there with your thumb up your ass while the sorcs, hammerdins, or zons did all of the grunt work.

Well unless everyone who is see playing every day is a sub then the answer to the OP would be yes...
And IF they are all subs then happy days for FSS.

Seriously lockwoodx get a life dude, you wasted $50, get over it.

I really don't consider the game an epic fail, but that probably has to do with the fact I didn't buy into the hype. In my eyes HG:L is an enjoyable game that will only get better, if you want to know what an epic failure in gaming look up Derek Smart, or Daikatana.

So I called up Bill Roper,....
"listen to my wine", and he said
"S, T, F, U noob, we had to release on time."
All those voices still crying from farrr away,....
clutter up all the forums,
just to hear them say!!

Welcome to Hellgate Guru's Plains of Disssspair.
Such a lovely place.
Such an angry place.
They livin it up at the Plains of Disssspair.
There should be no suprise, when you hear the cries.

Moderators watch the forums....
Posters cold as ice....
And Lock said, "we are all just prisioners here, of our own device"....
And in the local fan sites....
They gathered with lots of blame....
Stab it with their bad reviews....
But they just can't kill the game!!!

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door.
I had to find the hyperlink back,
To the forum I was in before.
"Relax" said the harbinger,
We are programmed to recieve...
You can log off any time you like,
But you can never leave!
