Ugrhhhhhh!!
I've heard people talking about "Evokers SUXX" or "Evokers + SP = stupid" so much that I have to post this just to get back at these people.

I play a spectral lash + electric Evoker and I'm living fine!!!

I guess most of these people just either play an evoker for, say, 5 minutes or just waste points on skills they don't even use most of the time (I've heard a friend of mine giving me an advice that includes putting points on sprint because "evokers run a lot". ARGGHHHHHH!!!

What do you think about this?

I haven't ever seen anyone say this.... :D

I can only say that Evokers are just fine. They're not everyone's cup of tea as many people play lazily and expect everything to die in one barrage.

With an Evoker, all you need to do is remember to keep moving and you can do fine without ever dieing. I only play HC (by choice even without being able to select it in the game options) and my Evoker is level 23, never even been close to death - she barely even ever gets her shields taken down, let alone lose health!!! ;)

As for Sprint - don't knock it!! :D Evokers don't actually need to max skills to be powerful when their damage comes from their foci.... so sprint could actually be very useful to help kite later monsters! ;)

As a lvl 39 elite evoker, I find I kill pretty quickly, though most saying that we're pitiful are bm/g. I kill much faster than I did as a mm, though I die more as escape and firing from 44m keeps you a bit further from the action. It is all about playing style.

I remember those posts... guess it depends on playing style and the first character (anyone starting the game as a GRD will likely find evokers somewhat "squishy" later on). My first character was an evoker and I find playing templar MORE difficult, not easier (as an evoker, I never knew imp snipers have igniting attack...). So it's just the question of getting used to different strengths / limitations of a diferent class.

BTW, sprint IS good, your friend was right about this one, though perhaps his explanation could be more in-depth than it was.

If anything I always found the Evoker overpowered. Was my first char as well, and I made a very poor build (I thought the level cap was 99 by that time, so I spent my points a bit carelessly, although I did focus them mainly on spectral lash). Even then, I absolutely plowed through everything with spectral lash (I mean, something that has a pretty high chance of phasing from 40+ meters and with constant damage can't be considered weak). When monsters came close I'd just use that skills that makes your shields go sky high, to recharge them, then waited for the monsters to chew a bit on them, than ran and waited for the skill to recharge, and so on. Don't think I ever needed to run more than once, though.

I've been thinking of doing an evoker again after my current marksman, this time around understanding the game a whole lot more, and thus making it even easier.

Really, my experience with Evoker is that it is the least demanding build in terms of skills.

As far as I am concerned, I can easily manage with 1 point in most skills - further points just add utility, and I am used to playing variant builds that are very limited. I can pretty much get every skill with an evoker and play very comfortably.... they are really not challenging in terms of build.

They are however, completely equipment dependent - this is pretty much directly opposite to normal RPG games with mages, where melee classes live or die by their weapons but caster classes are nearly as effective naked.

Personally, I think all the classes are fairly equal in terms of balance, although I think Marksmen and Blademasters are on the weaker end. Guardians, Engineers and Summoners are just solid, good damage and very high survivability (important to me for HC) ..... and Evokers are the middle of the road class - just fine as long as they are played appropriately.

First of all, thank you for all of your replies. (I didn't realize that my post can have this much replies in 1 day, or that so many people are interested in Evokers).

Second of all, yeah, I'm really tired of people blaming bad builds as a cause of their failure (unless, of course, you decided to pump all of your skills onto Arcane Shield) instead of their play style. I really, really want to tell these people that this is NOT Diablo 2 and you actually have to move your fingers (a lot) in order to succeed at this game.

Third of all, do any of you guys think that Evokers are running a little bit low on passive skills. I mean, HL is action-oriented and stuffs but come on, 1? Plus, I think that the developers for the game are pushed a little bit to tight for the deadline since there are many stuffs for the Evoker that are going to be GREAT in the game that they promised but didn't appear in the final cut. I think I heard in some magazine about a "transformation" spell that will allow us to take the form of other monsters. I think it would be cool if that was implemented.

I think I read something aout that transformation somewhere. If my memory isn't failing me, it was some guy at some forum posting some unverified information about upcoming subclasses for each faction.

Uhmmmmm... So anyway, does anyone have any colorful ideas for a passive skill for Evokers that supposedly will make our lives easier? And please let it not be a movement speed upgrade, I think my Evoker has ran enough for his lifetime.

Sorry, but you're playing the wrong class if you want skills that give passive bonuses...

Btw, most of the passive stuff comes from the focus items and the mods you chuck in them, not from any skills. Would be a bit way too extremely frikkin easy if they still added a dozen passive skills on top of that.

Items - the right ones combined into your build- are invaluable. Upgrade item levels, this works wonders especially the focus items, and mod away baby ...... style as suggested has alot to do with it. If you are attracted to casters in any form of fps/rpg gaming then, you WILL find a way to make your build work. Trial and error, stick to the things that work.

I have alos found that , diff weapon and spell configs, go along way .......
I have 3 diff, although not highly complicated / involved configs .....
One for long distance sniping , one for melee tanking and 2 take add damage easily.
And one thats a combo of the two.

But hey iam no pro, but life in the RIFT is getting alot easier.
