I'm writing this now to see what kind of interest I could expect to generate from creating some competitions over the coming year.
Having run a successful D2 SP guild for a long time and having seen a lot of very funny SP competitions in that time, I know that with the right people and right attitude, SP competitions, ladders etc can be very interesting and a lot of fun for those joining in.
So, while it might be a bit early in terms of numbers of SPers currently viewing this subforum, I just wondered if anyone had any interest.... and if anyone wants to chuck down some ideas, that'd be great! Novelty is the key, no uberness needed! ;)
Bear in mind that prizes will be purely prestige in the community and all entrants have to swear by an honour code. :D

Good Idea
--Time based leveling using screenies of /played when you start and when you end
--AP ranking
cant think of anything else at the moment

Nice - I love the idea, it's a awesome idea over all - what kind of Challenges are we talking here - could be lots of fun.

As said before, these are all going to be based on an honour system that people will sign up for first, so anything time based will be done on that honour system, not by screenies! Especially when the /played function is whacked out too! :D
I already have a host of ideas, but I'm happy to wait and see what others come up with first! :)

Sounds really nice. Although I've almost always preferred SP for most games, I must admit that I've never taken part of any SP-competitions. For some reason it sounds more tempting with this game. Does HGL display amount of time played anywhere? And can you view your Achievements in SP? What I'm getting to is that some contests could be quite simple, like get the "I hate Crates" achievement as soon as possible. Okay, maybe not that achievement in particular, but I guess my point/idea comes through?

I am guessing that the next patch might stabilise some of the reporting errors.
At present, there are 2 patches.... if you are running version 1.43, then you can press J to see your achievements. If you are running retail, there are no achievements.
Currently in sp typing /played is really bugged, if it works at all. So I wouldn't want to do too many things by in game time.... but we could have competitions running a fixed real world time instead! ;)
Believe me when I say, my challenges will be whacked out, unusual builds and unusual goals! :D

Thanks! Pressing 'J' brought up the achievement-list, as you said. Although, all achievements weren't there. For instance "The Claw King" (kill Shulgoth 100 times) was not in the list and I know for sure that it exists in SP, since I've done it before. Or is that NM Shulgoth only, perhaps? Sorry if it appears as if I'm derailing the thread. I don't intend to. Looking forward to seeing the contests! :D
EDIT: Ah, thanks for clearing that up below, Sp3tSnAz.

^ They appear after you do a certain percentage :)
For shulgoth, it's after 10 kills, same with Sydonai

I've got the first competition sorted.....
I am going to the UK for 2 weeks on Friday.... then when I get back here, I'll start the competition up. Maybe we can convince the powers that be to give out custom titles to the winners of the competitions!? :)
First one is going to be a toughie! ;)

Dont hold out...spit it out? Please dont have the first one be to kill the LAST boss 100 times...that would be just not cool...

I promise it will be fun.... the evaluating yourself against others part will be a bit wierd as I assure you it wont be a normal style of play! :D
I'd like to give a bit more info now, but I'm going to hold on until I get back from the UK around the end of the first week of January.... I don't want to give anyone an unfair advantage by letting them experiment with the idea first!! ;)
Then we'll do a thread for it and have a running table of surviving characters.
