I recently noticed that the base damage of the weapon (THIS IS NOT THE RATING) updates when u put in a +% spectral/fire/toxic/electric damage mod with that particular type of elemental damage or any mod with +% overall damage.

while on the otherhand when putting in a +% elemental damage mod in to a weapon that doesnt have that particular type of damage will not change it's base damage.

now the question is if the +% elemental damage mod only have effect towards the damage done by the weapon when the weapon itself has that type of elemental damage.

Example:
Putting a +% fire dmg mod in a Triden sniper rifle (spectral dmg) will not upgrade its base damage atleast on "display"
while putting a +% spectral dmg mod in it will immediately be noticble on the base damage of the weapon.

So now has anyone tested if the mod with the wrong elemental dmg type will still "work" eventhough it doesnt show up?

I think it works like this;

If you have a weapon that does Physical damage(let's say 100 points of damage), and add a mod that adds 10% Fire damage, the weapon would do 90 Physical and 10 Fire damage.

On the other hand, if you've got a Fire weapon that does 100 points and add that 10% Fire damage you would add 10% of 100 which is 10, so it would end up doing 110 points.

I've suspected this for a long time now, seems as the mod doesn't really work as it says it does. Because if it did add 10% Fire damage to that Physical damage weapon, wouldn't it add another column saying "Damage: Fire 10-10" under the Physical damage?

How ever It is possible to make an electric gun for example to Ignite mobs by adding Ign Str + Fire dmg mod, so obviously when u add a different elemental mod some dmg has been converted to that elemental dmg.

now ofcourse it can either as u described by converting some % of the base dmg or a bad display bug on the item info that doesnt show the extra dmg.

lets all hope it is the later

Yeah because it says "Adds" not "Converts". Meh, all too confusing.

Higher willpower cost on +x% elemental damage than +x% damage indicates that +x% elemental damage of another type works like +x% dmg, only it allows you to proc other sfx.

prior to patch 01, even if u added different forms of ele damage %, the extra ele damage was listed after u added the mod, but that displayed vanished at the current patch06.

since it was displayed correctly before, my guess is that its a display bug rather than converting the % to ele damage and not adding on.

if its only converting the certain % of ele damage, and not increasing the overall damage, its pretty pointless to have a range of ele damage %, eg what's the diff between a 6% toxic mod, and a 17% toxic mod, if u socket it in a fire based weapon?
