View Full Version : Why cant we choose where our first skill point goes?
Question

As title.
E.G. I want to make a rapid fire marksman. The 1 point in tactical stance is more or less pointless...i dont want it, i wont use it, i just want to rapid fire all the way.
Ooops i only have 49/50 skill points to play with, because FSS decided my first skill point for me.
This sounds like a really strange decision. Has FSS said anything or has anyone feedback this to them?

I guess you can think of it 2 ways, you get that skill for "free" or they just waist a skillpoint for you. I totally agree though, its pointless :(

This one thing has caused much ruckus ever since pre-release ^^. Just keep you fingers crossed.

As ALL characters of that class get the same 1 point in it and 1 point in sprint, what's the big deal? It's simply a skill point that denotes which class you are.
They might take it away and only give you 49 points to work with anyway. Doesn't seem worth worrying about to me.

SHUT UP! KEEP QUIET! DON'T MENTION IT!
Er, no, Mr. Roper Sir, everything is OK Mr. Roper Sir, we are all very happy with our first skill point being right where it is, Mr. Roper Sir, Thank you Mr. Roper Sir.
Is he gone? Ok, keep quiet now. In BETA, you didn't even get that one skill point! You only got a weapon with a +1 to the same skill. So keep quiet, and be happy you get a skill point at all. FSS just might decide to revert, and I'd rather have a pointless skill point that's useful at any time than a pointless weapon that you scrap after the first item drops for you.
Yes, I know some classes get a better deal than others.

Yup. The skill should come with your first weapon like in any other game. Like D2. Came with the weapon. I mean gorramit, the level reqs are already there for each skill. Won't throw the game off balance if they think about it a little.

the only problem with the "bonus" skill point is if you don't intend to use that particular skill
its better than having a weapon with +1sp because you keep the point while the weapon is usually gone after a couple of lvl's; of course it would be even better if we'd get to choose where to put that skill point but one can't have everything
the argument that "it should be like in any other game" is total bull, unless of course you like what EA is doing, regurgitating the same games year after year after year

Why not just leave the Level 1 skill point for us to place? No need to bother with a weapon, just make each character start out with a free skill point. No need to get complicated.

I wish the game let us roll for our stats in the begining oldschool DnD style. I loved trying to get the best combo. I also agree we should be able to place our first skill point where ever we want. it's not like you even need it at the start because your starting weapon is plenty to get your first few levels.

The already spent skillpoint should be a free unspent skillpoint. I completely agree with the starter of this thread.

in "any" game.. the first skill point didn't even exist
Play a game like WoW you won't get a "point" until level 10
D/D2 you didn't get points until level 2
Tabula Rasa you didn't get any points until level 2(but all your base tier 1 skills had 1 pt defaulted to them)
the fact FSS is giving you a free pt in sprint is being generious.. and dont' forget they are giving you an item that gives +1 to a skill at start. That's more than most games do for you

it just gives you something to work with i guess but it would be better if we could use the point :( or start at lvl 0?

Hhehee... well see ; one way to avoid this problem would be to give everyone a starting ability (sprint) and at level 10 you gain 2 pts. So going from level 1-9 is 1 pt a level. Level 10 you earn 2 pts :) so you get that free pt back from level 1 just must earn it
