Rumours and Speculations: New monster for 1.3?

Monday, March 31st, 2008

We’ll leave this one as a rumour for now, as I am not sure if the pictures are real or just ones with a Hellgate Logo plastered over them. But going by Game Meca’s usual record, I would say the pictures are real.

They reveal a new monster and new area, and some text that has been roughly translated by Google Translator states that this new area is rumoured for patch 1.3 which is due on the 14th of April. So yes, until we get official word from FSS take this with a grain of salt.

Global Forum Update helgeyiteu April 14th peojyeoit a rumor that the matter.

Patch 1.3 regard to the new map, perhaps, would not disclose. Prudent to speculate …

Boseumop added to the spirit of a fallen seusyat marketing of the clergy in the Holy Land and keonsepahteu

The new map of the Holy Land is estimated to degenerate.

Patch 1.3 Nearing Test Center

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

This was posted today by Scapes on the official Hellgate London website:

Hot on the heels of Patch 1.2 comes Patch 1.3 which offers a host of new features and improvements to your Hellgate: London experience. This update is just as beefy as its predecessor and then some. Taken from the searing forge of development, it has been hammered and honed on the fiery anvil of in-house testing and will soon be fortified upon being thrust into the cold water that is Test Center.

Metaphors aside, Patch 1.3 has been crafted with an abundance of hotly desired features, the patch notes for which are presently being compiled. The latest addition to Patch 1.3 is Shared Stash, originally slated for the Abyss Chronicles (Patch 2). This feature will allow all of an account’s characters to have a space to keep weapons, equipment, and other items in a location where any other characters on the account can access them. Two other new additions to the patch include gambling vendors and an increase to the current Palladium cap per character. Gambling vendors will offer unidentified items for sale which appear as “Normal” rarity and may or may not be worth far more than their purchase price. For more information on the estimated “content schedule” for Patch 1.3, be sure to check the “Lowdown On Upcoming Updates” news post made shortly before Patch 1.2 launched.

Patch 1.3 is estimated to be ready for Test Center next week. A more absolute date will be announced in the coming days along with the update’s patch notes.

Great to see the shared stash still being made, although I’m wondering if new space will be made for it or if it will go into that extra space that we already have in our stashes.

The gambling vendors should be awesome… wonder if they will have any new items…

Friday, March 28th, 2008

This has already been posted on our forums, but just to news it. Scapes has posted about the new Single Player patch on the forums.

Just got confirmation from the developers and QA that the Single Player patch which will match to Patch 1.2 will be ready for beta testing by players next week. They have reported no show-stoppers in the course of testing it thus far.

A solid ETA will be made available Monday if not sooner.

Comerica Bank Finances Flagship Studios

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

The Flagship Studios website has been updated with a new press release:

Comerica Bank Finances Flagship Studios
Los Angeles, CA (March 26, 2008) — Innovative independent video game finance transaction finalized.

Flagship Studios, the San Francisco-based creator of both Hellgate: London™ and Mythos™ for PC, and Comerica Bank, a Texas-based regional bank, today announced that they have closed an innovative finance transaction to support Flagship’s continuing development of AAA and online game franchises.

Using an independent film financing model as its basis, Comerica Bank has created a multi-million dollar facility backed by the sale and distribution rights to Flagship’s game franchise “Hellgate: London”.

“By following a model similar to independent film financing, we are able to directly finance ongoing content for our online games without relying upon a publisher’s investment,” said Steve Goldstein, Director of Business Development and General Counsel, Flagship Studios. “As the PC game business makes the transition from the boxed retail model to the online model, alternative financing will become a cornerstone of expanding the industry.”

“We are pleased that Comerica Bank could build on our expertise in financing films to help meet the financial needs of Flagship Studios,” said Jeff Colvin, Senior Vice President with Comerica Bank, from its Entertainment Group offices in Century City.

Jeff Colvin and Todd Steiner structured the transaction on behalf of Comerica. Joshua Grode and Sam Kozhaya of Liner Yankelevitz Sunshine & Regenstreif, LLP led the legal team on behalf of Comerica. Andrew Katz of Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp, LLP represented Flagship Studios in the transaction.

Wonder if this means new improvements for Hellgate and Mythos or if it will be used on future games?

Hellgate Guru Evolves

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Dear Hellgate Guru members, readers, contribitors and visitors.

Firstly I would like to thank you all for the great effort you have put towards making this site the great place that it is already and hope that you all join us for the exciting changes we have planned ahead of us.

While some changes will be announced in the future, the first two will be made now.

Firstly, we belive that as a fan site, it is kind of pointless of us having a PoD forum. All that happens there, is people vent their problems and don’t suggest any fixes, or they flame each other until threads derail more and more. It also means that FSS doesn’t really visit our site anymore, which we can hopefully rectify. This means that we are going to close the PoD, and while it will remain as an archive, we will not allow anymore posts in it, or in its style anywhere on the forums.

While some of you might be ready to lynch us like an angry mob for this closure, we are not getting rid of complaints all together. Instead we are setting you guys up with a new suggestions forums for Hellgate London.

The suggestion forum will follow a simple set of rules and will not be anywhere as lenient as the PoD was. Rather than just venting, you can post your problems, why they occur, what you don’t like about them, as well as possible suggestions you have for these.

Thanks, and see the rest of the rules on our forums!

Recent Site Slowdowns

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

For the past few days, our server came under Denial of Service attacks which resulted in a lot of sluggishness on the site. I’ve since dealt with the matter, so the server should be up and running at full speed.

I apologize if this little bit of nastiness prevented you from having a smooth experience with us on our website.

Thank you for your continued support.

Shiny Patch 1.2 Trailer Released

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Also off the Hellgate London front page.

Patch 1.2 launched last week and Hellgaters have started discovering what lies in wait in the murky depths of The Deepest Wild. For those who have yet to make the journey, here is a brief glimpse at what horrors and treasures await you. Heed the lesson to be learned from this tale: The Desiccator has very sensitive feelings and doesn’t take kindly to brash adventurers who left their manners behind in Stonehenge.

A decidedly higher quality version of this video can be found on the front page and a number of major game media sites have it available for download. (Frankly, I’d encourage you to watch it using something other than the YouTube link.)

Enjoy :)

New Hellgate-Flavored Literature

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

This is off the front page of Hellgate London.

We’ve got a double dose of paperback goodness aimed to please those Hellgaters who like to read and those who like to read…less. Let’s hit the books!

Recently slated for a release date of April 8th, Tokyopop’s Hellgate: London manga, simply titled Hellgate: London, will bit hitting shelves in just two short weeks. This graphic novel is a prequel to the actual game, taking place 18 years before you begin your adventure in Russel Square. Here is the plot synopsis from Tokyopop’s website:

“In the year 2020, a demon invasion strikes several cities around the globe…including London, home to college Rugby champ John Fowler and his family. But before the climatic Battle of All Hallow’s Eve, John and his sister Lindsey attempted to discover the story behind what seemed to be a series of bizarre portents: an exhumed skeleton, a haunting apparition, and a powerful sword that they find in their attic. Solving the mystery, though, reveals something about their family that changes their lives forever…In the prequel to the hit video game, explore the world of Hellgate just 48 hours before the world becomes a demon-ridden, war-torn hell–and discover just what might have started it all.”

“Will they survive the invasion?” “Who is the figure in red at the top?” “Are Molten Edge swords really that huge?” If these are the questions you find yourself asking, you’ll be glad to know there’s more information to be had on the Tokyopop website including character profiles and a word from the manga’s senior editor.

———————–

Now, something for the Hellgater who’s more of a traditional reader. Mel Odom has completed the second in a trilogy of novels based on the Hellgate: London universe, fourteen years before the time Hellgate: London video game takes place in. Titled Hellgate: London: Goetia, it continues where Hellgate: London: Exodus, the first book, left off:

“2024: Four years after the Demons opened the planar rift known as the Hellgate, mankind’s desperate struggle to survive continues. Simon Cross, expatriate of the secret Templar order, works to find and transport survivors out of the ruined city. Hiding within London’s Underground system, Simon is raising an army to fight against the encroaching Darkness. Now, he battles the monsters that roam the city and fends off a jealous Knight who plans to take Simon down…all while striving to reunite the divided Templar forces.

Warren Schimmer, a Cabalist who is magically linked to a powerful demon, searches for Goetia. Also known as the Lesser Key of Solomon, this ancient artifact could provide the forces of good or evil with an edge in the ongoing war. Standing in his path is Simon Cross. Warren has made a bargain with his Demon lord for survival and the promise of vengeance against the persuasive Templar…but a Demon’s promise is made to be broken.”

Hellgate’s Performance in Korea

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Credit for this news goes to one of Flagshipped.com’s users who reported this to their website. However it’s just solid facts and information so no harm reporting on it here.

Gamechart.kr is a Korean website that basically has software installed in most Korean PC Bangs (which are basically internet cafes) which records what games are played and how often. As PC Bangs are very popular ways to play games in Korea they show the general trend of the country.

Going to the Gamerchart website, you can see a list of it’s top 15 games on the front page. However clicking the MMORPG link on the left takes you to a list filtered just for those. On that list, you can see Hellgate London as sitting at number 11 on the list. Clicking on it takes you to another page which shows the graph of Hellgate’s playtime performance. You can see that in the last month of being out in Korea it has fallen from 9th to 20th place overall.

Korean Performance

Sad to see the game do so badly only after a month or so, specially seeing that Korea was seen as such a strong market for the game. Hopefully there is still some chance for a turn around come the new patches as Hellgate does have a lot of potential behind it, at least in my opinion.

Enjoy… i guess… :)

Screenshot Contest: Reconnaissance Mission (03/24/08)

Monday, March 24th, 2008

This was posted by Hellgate London’s Community Manager, Scapes.

Heads-up, Hellgaters! This just in. We have received an elective mission of high importance from the People of Holborn Station. Their transmission follows:
…*tap tap tap*…is this thing on? *microphone feedback* GAH! Sorry about that. *BZZT*

Hello! We are the People of Holborn Station broadcasting a message for any and all willing champions of humanity out there. We have been hearing about some of the new findings being reported from Stonehenge… *BZZT* …something about a large beastie called Malach? Malock? Moloch! That’s the name. Him and that other Desiccator creature. Well, we’d like to be able to put faces to the names! News takes a long time to reach Holborn, what with the entrance to Covent Garden Approach breaking down every few minutes. …what’s that? Oh, Techsmith 101 wants to say it isn’t his fault. And that it’s the capacitors that keep frying or some such. And that he misses you very much. And…yeah, I’m not repeating that, Techsmith 101. No. Just…go away!

Wait, no, not you! We, the People of Holborn Station, would like a bit of excitement in our otherwise dull lives. Well. Barring the demon invasion. And constant threat of death. And when Abigail chooses to dye her hair a new shade of fuchsia. To help alleviate the doldrums and give us an insight into what horrors seek to rend our flesh from our bones, we request images from the battlefront beyond Stonehenge. Maybe a shot or two from that Master’s Court-y place or OOH! How about that Deeper Than Deep Wild land or hey, if you’re feeling really generous could we see some of those new critters we hear folks’re carrying around with ‘em nowadays? Better yet, could demonstrate some of those new unique-ish weapons being used on a few demon targets? Oarf would like that a lot. He doesn’t even have a license to sell weapon mods!

So yeah, if y’got the time to spare, snap off a few pictures of the new things cropping up over near Stonehenge? We’d all be most appreciative, wouldn’t we, folks! Yeah, people are excited just thinkin’ about it! Oh. But our appreciation and undying adoration probably isn’t enough inspiration, huh. Not to a powerful, rare-dye-kit-wearing warrior like you. Well, let’s see what can part with… *BZZT* …OH! Well, we do have these nice vintage posters signed with a whole mess of names we can spare. Will that be an even swap? Our full-size Hellgate: London posters signed by dozens of Flagship Studios employees for your well-framed, thoughtful, action-packed, doldrum-ending reconnaissance photos from the front lines? Oh wait, Techsmith 101 says he’ll throw in a kiss as a deal sweetener! *BEEP* Wait, what’s this? *BEEP* Huh. Transmitter’s saying, “LOW BATTER–”… *BZZT*

So there you have it. Venture out into the dangerous realms beyond Stonehenge, capture images of demons or items or worlds unseen to the humble People of Holborn Station, and be judged among other submissions for a chance to win signed Hellgate: London posters (and a kiss from Techsmith 101 should you actually want it).

If you choose to accept this most perilous of missions, use the Print Screen (PrntScrn) key or “/screenshot” command (sans quotation marks) to capture your images (any commonly downloadable/viewable format) of new Patch 1.2 content in Stonehenge. Submissions are to be sent to fans@flagshipstudios.com either as an email attachment or hyperlink and will be judged on originality, creativity, and the ability to capture what the People of Holborn Station so desperately seek.

While there is no set limit for submissions, a maximum of four images per participant is suggested. At the conclusion of the contest, four winning images will be selected. Only one prize per winner to make for a total of four winners. Anyone with an account on the official Hellgate: London forums is eligible.

Start Date: Monday, March 24th, 2008 @ 12:00 AM PT
End Date: Monday, March 31st, 2008 @ 11:59 AM PT

Send Submissions To: fans@flagshipstudios.com

Official Rules: Here

Images of the signed posters will be posted tomorrow. Good luck, Hellgaters!
