In covering the games they didn’t get to write up during this year’s E3, ActionTrip has posted a two-page preview of Hellgate: London based on their hands-on time with the game at the event. A number of the quests found in the E3 build of HGL are mentioned and the game’s development is discussed.
Another level that was showcased was the Millennium Battle, referring, of course, to the Millennium Bridge. Since the London’s Thames River has dried up, players are required to explore and fight on the riverbed itself. What ensues is a bloody battle, involving a lot of action and mighty opponents to tackle. For one, you’re going to face huge creatures, the design of which largely resembles the colossal alien tripods from Spielberg’s War of the Worlds (we’ll probably never see the end of that one). Anyhow, it’s your job to take these monsters out. What makes things even more challenging is the fact that the sewer and riverbed are crammed with lesser minions and demons that will just keep coming. The good news is you’ll have some assistance yourself. NPCs are scattered throughout the level and can easily be called upon as support. What’s even cooler is that there are plenty of defense turrets around the area, which may be activated to help keep those nasty monstrosities at bay. Naturally, the course of battle also depends greatly on the type of class you happen to be playing.
Continuing the momentum from last week’s interview with Bill Roper, Community Manager Angelace has a new interview with Flagship Studio’s Director of Global PR & Marketing Tricia Gray over at the Hellgate Resistance.
In the interview, Tricia talks about how she joined the gaming industry and what she does at Flagship. The interview’s not all serious questions, though - it’s really pretty fun and they goof around with it.
In one of the first articles about Hellgate: London to be published that isn’t related to E3, GameSpy details the game’s cooperative mode. The three pages cover three hours of hands-on time with Hellgate: London and GameSpy’s editors have a lot of great things to say about the experience.
Li: I could’ve played Hellgate: London all week if they’d let me. Typically, dungeon-crawlers aren’t my style, but playing as a Marksman made the entire experience a whole ton of fun. I was able to have an experience that felt very much like an FPS while still leveling up, choosing new abilities, and modding my weapons. I think it says a lot about a game when a big first-person shooter fan like me is able to sit down with it and have a great time while Gabe and Patrick were able to have completely different experiences playing as a Summoner and Guardian.
Joynt: Playing the Guardian was a blast. We had some other options, since there are six core classes initially available in the game, with Flagship hinting at a few others while we were there. I could have retained my martial flavor and been a damage dealer, for example, but we were there both to have fun and to see how Hellgate hangs together in play, even in early Alpha. So we had a tank, a ranged DPS character, and a pet class. Since you’re responsible for your own healing with health and energy injectors, as well as a huge array of anti-condition equipment (take that, poisons!), there’s no healing class. That really cements the two pet users as the third element of the game’s holy trinity of classes.
Additionally, some rather shiny screenshots are shared as well! Full article can be found here. Thanks, Tormalor, for posting the link on the forums. Swear that these gaming sites like putting stuff up while I’m asleep on purpose.

Sue has pointed out that 4Gamer has updated their site with info of the hunter which talks of bots, drones and aiming. While the info is in Japanese it supposedaly talks of the recent vids we saw, however it provides a great set of pics with it which show a lot of the different aiming, bots and so on.
Sol just pointed out to me that Angelace has updated her blog with another pic of the jeep with three hot babes near it. That’s rite, not just one babe but three ridiculously hot babes!
IAHGames has released an exclusive new trailer of Hellgate: London which features a lot of action from the game’s Evoker, Marksman and Blademaster classes. You can check it out at IAH Games’ website.
We’ve seen the demon hordes being slashed by the Templars, burnt by the Cabalists but now it’s time to go hunting Hellgate style.
IGN has posted up a preview of the two hunter classes which not only include a write up of each class but also a video preview similar to the Cabalist and Templar ones we’ve seen not too long ago.
David Steinwedel, the Supervising Sound Designer of FSS said regarding the Marksman Class:
Made for the self-reliant, independent badass, the Marksman class can handle a fight, loves his or her rifle, and doesn’t need help from anybody. A steady hand, focused eye, and tactical mind are all that’s required to survive with this shooter-oriented class.
Brent Shinn, the IT director of FSS studios had this to say on the Engineer:
The basic skills for the Engineer are mostly related to the bots. That being the case, the Engineer is a down-to-business character. I think it’s more in line with my desire to just hold the fire button, and drop dead meat. However, this class speaks to me.
The links to the IGN videos are of a low resolution to the non subscribers, but thankfully the official Hanbiton Hellgate website has provided us with the HD versions. While their links were broken I uploaded the two videos to File Front.
Comic Con has posted up some reviews on their site of various figurines including the Hellgate London weta figurines. Scroll down to the 5th item on the link.
Thanks goes to HGG member and Hellgate Station Admin Sue for the great find.
The winners of the Korean closed beta have been announced on various websites including Playforum, Inven and GameMeca. We had confirmation from FSS that closed beta is just the same is alpha, it’s just a different name that they use is Asia for their testing there.
Thanks to HGG member Kotoko for the find and congrats to all the winners.
