Our partner Swordplay at PlayHGL has posted full coverage of the Asia Launching Party which took place in Seoul, Korea on the 31st of May. There’s a whole bunch of pictures and a play-by-play of the event. Here’s a picture of Dave, Swordplay and Bill:
You will be very happy to know that the limited closed beta for Korea has been revealed to be in July. Be sure to check out PlayHGL for further details!
Angelace has sent us news that she’s updated her blog with fresh pictures from the Hellgate: London “Asia Launching Party” in Korea.
You can check out the pictures right here:
Here’s Angelace!
The HanbitSoft party seems like it was a total blast, with over 600 participants present on location. From what I witnessed on Afreeca’s live coverage of the event, many of Korea’s Hellgate fans had a chance to meet Bill Roper and personally get their hands on the game. In addition to all that, prizes were given away at the end of the celebrations.
Afreeca is hosting a live streaming feed of the Hellgate: London “Asia Launching Party” in Korea with a feed directly from the event. The feed will also feature an interview with Bill Roper and the latest gameplay footage of Hellgate: London.
You can view the stream here. Click the green button and a window should pop up, prompting the installation of an ACtiveX application. After it’s installed, click the green button again.
Please note that you will need to have a PDBox or Afreeca account in order to log in and view the stream.
It’d seem they didn’t see fit to wait for the new websites to launch. Job openings with Flagship Studios, Flagship Seattle, and Ping0 have been listed on the temporary Flagship Studios website.
Good luck, applicants! Thanks, Sulfuric, for the heads-up.

We’re starting to get the very first bits of information from our Asian counterparts and affiliates, Swordplay (PlayHGL.com webmaster) and Angelace (IAH’s HG:L Community Manager). For those not familiar with the event, the best way to describe it is the Community Day of the east., taking place in Seoul, Korea.
Unless we’re mistaken, “Launching Party” is a bit of a misnomer. Yes, the event will be significantly larger than the Community Day that took place at Flagship Studios’ headquarters earlier this month: ten times so. However, there is nothing that suggests it marks the beginning of the alpha testing phase. We’ll certainly have more details to report come tomorrow.

Just in case there was any doubt that Hellgate: London is enjoying worldwide coverage, Belgian gaming magazine PC Gameplay has published a six-page preview of the game in its June issue. The article discusses elite subscriptions, posits (incorrectly) about the level cap, and gushes about the addictive nature of the game even in its pre-alpha state. It finishes with an interview with Flagship Studios’ CEO, Bill Roper.
Huge thanks to d24e for bringing us this news.

Happy second birthday, Hellgate Guru! Belatedly! The day that the HellgateGuru.com domain was registered happened to fall on the same day as Community Day, May 15th. Fun coincidence, no? Guru staff and forumers got to celebrate the day together in San Francisco. Granted, we were kinda distracted, what with the game right in front of us and all. As a result, we neglected to post about it that evening. And now for some obligatory birthday clip art.
While it might be a website, a birthday is still a birthday, however late it is celebrated. Birthdays require presents. Websites have no need of presents, so I figure the presents should go to those who populate the website. Something a little more enticing than a slice of that lovely clip art birthday cake.
For more on this, please visit the Inner Sanctum here. Now who’s going to join me in singing “Happy Birthday”?

Returning to its weekly schedule, London Calling’s 27th episode, “State Of The Guru Address” will be about how Hellgate Guru has evolved over two years and where Sol Invictus, Pyke, and myself plan to take it. Basically, we’ve heard the concerns on the forums and IRC about how the pace of the boards has suddenly doubled and wish to give folks a chance to discuss them in a round-table manner.
To accommodate talkers from more distant time zones, we’ll be starting the episode at 8pm EST, Sunday night (tomorrow). Participants are encouraged to join an hour early so that I can level your mics properly. No more scary audio recording results, heh.
As always, folks without mics are welcome to participate by posing opinions and questions in our IRC chatroom on EnterTheGame, #hellgatelondon, that we may respond to them during the program.
The episode can be listened to live here (streaming WinAMP feed) with musical prelude starting at about 7pm EST: http://www.chakl.com:8000/listen.pls
Well, okay, not so much your loins as much as your chest, but yeah. To explain, many have noticed the Hellgate Guru Logo thread has evolved from just a simple case of Scapes tinkering with Photoshop and blossomed into a full-blown Community Day project that turned out to be a smashing success: the birth of the Hellgate Guru work shirt.
Well, after giving shirts to five Shipmates (Bill Roper, Ivan Sulic, Brennan Ieyoub, Kaiser Hwang, Brent Shinn), IAH’s Angelace, and EA’s Bobby Tunick, I’m looking to share the Guru-y goodness to those who didn’t attend Community Day. Nine community members can already attest to the shirt’s quality and Guruness (they paid for them, doesn’t that say enough?) so I figured I’d put out feelers and test the demand for them here on the site.
If you have interest in them, express it here!

German gaming magazine GameStar reported on Hellgate: London not that long ago. In fact, it coverstoried the game February this year. Well, our Hellgate: London has made GameStar’s cover once again, this time in its June issue. Site affiliate inHellgate.de (who alerted us to this news) will probably have an overview of the magazine’s HG:L-related contents when it hits shelves in a few days.
We’ll update with more details on this cover story when it becomes available.UPDATE:
Hellgate Guru forumer Laze has kindly translated inHellgate.de’s comments on the GameStar HG:L article.
The Gamestar [issue] including the multi-page cover story on Hellgate: London is now {too} available for the non-subscribers and we’ve pinched a copy to start {the search} [looking] for {still unknown} [new] details. Alongside the attempt to translate the class names into German, mainly the following informations have caught our eyes:
* FSS is negotiating with the municipality of London whether the metro stations in the game can {take on} be named after the real stations.
* There will be a total of ten minutes of rendered movie sequences; {but} these aren’t finished yet, so they probably won’t have anything to {do} [in common] with the known trailers; the blur animation studio is working on these sequences.
* Based on faction, the story is experienced from a slightly different perspective, for example: artifact to close the hellgates - templars intend to destroy it, cabalists want to use it to learn more about the demons.
* Auction house is planned as additional content, so it won’t {come to} [be available at] the release, but will make it into the game, nevertheless.
* Game modes only available to elite customers: role play, hardcore, nightmare (?), PvP
* There will be shrines, as in Diablo 2.
Especially the second to last point made us doubt a little - up to now we assumed that there would be 3 difficulty levels, called “normal”, “nightmare” and “hell”, like in Diablo 2. However, [this would impose severe limitations on] non-elite-players {would be extremely limited this way}, that’s why we won’t view this information as verified and {will inquire again} [make further inquiries].
Hellgate Guru was founded in mid-2005 and has ever since been one of the most popular fan sites and forums devoted to Hellgate: London, catering to a wide range of interests, as well as having a dedicated team of staff members who keep the website full of constant updates, news and generate activity and hype around the game.
